Head Of Orange County APS Steps Down

Posted Updated

ORANGE COUNTY, N.C. — Facing public criticism, the director of the Orange County Animal Protection Society is resigning.

Laura Walters, who had only been in charge for 18 months, is currently embroiled in a dispute with a group of local animal activists.

The activists claim Walters and the APS refused to hand over minutes from board meetings, membership lists and financial records and improperly changed the group's bylaws.

Walters says she has been slandered.

Each side is suing the other.
