ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — Convicted murderer Mike Peterson has been released from Nash General Hospital after being involved in a prison fight Tuesday night.

Peterson was convicted nearly two weeks ago of murdering his wife, Kathleen. He was transferred last week from Central Prison in Raleigh to the Nash Correctional Institution.

Peterson and another inmate were involved in an altercation between 8:30 and 9 p.m. inside one of the cell blocks during the inmates' free time after dinner.

Peterson was taken to the hospital for examination. Officials at the correctional facility said Peterson was back in his cell by midnight and his injuries were not life-threatening.

Spokesperson Bonnie Boyette said Peterson, who was assigned a single-person cell last Thursday, was the only prisoner taken to the hospital. She said the incident is under an internal investigation.

Peterson is serving a life sentence.
