RALEIGH, N.C. — Because westbound on and off-ramps at U.S. 15-501 and Interstate 40 are scheduled to be closed, the N.C. Department of Transportation (NCDOT) and UNC-Chapel Hill are working together to ensure that people attending the football game in Chapel Hill on Saturday, Nov. 8, arrive and leave as safely and efficiently as possible.
Westbound I-40 motorists who usually exit at U.S. 15-501 should plan to exit one interchange before that, at N.C. 54, or at the next exit after U.S. 15-501, at N.C. 86. Eastbound I-40 motorists will still be able to exit at U.S. 15-501.
Express buses to the game serve park-and-ride lots at University Mall on Estes Drive and the Friday Center, east of campus off N.C. 54.
After the game, motorists needing to travel west on I-40 should access the interstate via N.C. 54 or N.C. 86. Those needing to travel east on I-40 will be able to access the highway from all three interchanges.
NCDOT reminds motorists to plan ahead for possible delays. Local commuters should use alternate routes. This construction is part of the project to widen I-40.
