Parents Speak Out Against School Merger Proposal

Posted Updated

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — A controversial plan to merge two local school systems is getting a failing grade.

Orange County commissioners got an earful from hundreds who packed Chapel Hill High School auditorium Thursday evening.

Many parents and residents in the audience said they oppose the proposed plan to merge Chapel Hill-Carrboro and Orange County school systems.

Commissioners want to bring Orange County Schools on a more equal footing financially with Chapel Hill-Carrboro schools.

Parents have another chance to weigh in on the proposed merger plan. A public hearing is scheduled Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Cedar Ridge High School in Hillsborough.
