Hatteras Island Slowly Re-Opens To Property Owners

Posted Updated

HATTERAS ISLAND, N.C. — Hatteras Village is slowly re-opening after Hurricane Isabel cut off the village from the mainland.

Permanent residents had been the only ones allowed on the island, but now everyone who owns property is allowed back.

Ferry service is still the only way in and out of the village, and services are still extremely limited.

Tourists will not be allowed back until Highway 12 reopens.
