CLINTON, N.C. — Family, friends and colleagues paid their last respects Sunday night to a Wake County deputy killed on the job.
Visitation was held in Clinton for deputy Phil Owens, who died Thursday in a single-car accident. Owens' funeral is Monday afternoon at the Sampson County Agri-Expo Center in Clinton.
Owens' accident marked the second time in a month the Wake County Sheriff's Office lost an officer in the line of duty.
Deputy Owens was on duty but not on a call when he lost control of his patrol car on a road outside Fuquay-Varina and hit a tree.
