Woman Killed, Husband Critically Injured In Johnston County Wreck

JOHNSTON COUNTY, N.C. — There has been a deadly crash in Johnston County involving a tractor-trailer and a car.

The wreck happened in the eastbound direction of Highway 70, east of I-95. One person is confirmed dead.

According to the Highway Patrol, a 1999 Buick 4-door sedan driven by Edward Everett of Grimesland, N.C., in Pitt County, was westbound on Highway 70 when Everett went to make a left turn onto Highway 70 Business. Witnesses said an eastbound tractor-trailer driven by Gerald Goodridge of Pikeville went through a red light and hit Everett's car broadside.

Everett was airlifted to UNC Hospitals in critical condition. His 67-year-old wife, Suzie, was killed.

There were no reported injuries to the truck driver, who has been charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle and a red-light violation
