Edgecombe Authorities Break Up Theft Ring At QVC Plant

Posted Updated

EDGECOMBE COUNTY, N.C. — The Edgecombe County Sheriff's Office have arrested three people in connection with a series of thefts at the QVC plant.

Authorities say three employees, Timothy Sheroy Copeland, Gail Weaver Johnson and Lee Vernon Staton have been stealing electronic pieces of stock off the shelves at a QVC warehouse. They would reportedly send the packages out of the warehouse on a UPS truck and have the packages delivered to themselves.

Officials say the merchandise was shipped to a number of residences around Edgecombe County as well as Charlotte, N.C. and New York.

Authorities say the thefts have occurred since March 2003. Detectives conducted surveillance on the three employees for about two weeks prior to making the arrests.

The Sheriff's Office has recovered a portion of the original stolen merchandise. Detectives estimate the losses to QVC between $100,000 to $150,000.
