Durham County School Bus Involved In Wreck

Posted Updated

DURHAM COUNTY, N.C. — A Durham County school bus was involved in an accident with two cars Thursday morning.

Police say bus driver Jacqueline Thorpe had stopped at a stop sign on November Drive at 8:07 a.m. when she pulled out in front of a car.

A spokesman for Durham Public Schools said 20 students were on the bus heading to Eno Valley Elementary School. A 10-year old girl on the bus was treated at the hospital and released.

Two people in the car were also taken to the hospital. A second car was also involved in the crash, but no one inside was hurt.

There have been four school bus accidents since late August, which is raising some concerns for Henry Kirby, director of transportation for Durham Public Schools.

"Right now, [it] seems like an unfortunate series of events," he said.

The Highway Patrol is investigating the latest accident.
