WAKE COUNTY, N.C. — The recent death of a
Wake County deputy
brings back painful memories for the parents of a Raleigh police officer killed a year ago Wednesday.
Officer Charles Paul died last year when he lost control of his motorcycle on the Beltline while chasing a speeding car.
"Nobody knows how parents feel until they lose a child. You can say I lost my momma or lost my daddy, but nobody knows how we feel until they've walked in our shoes," said Trudy Paul, Charles' mother.
A vigil in Paul's honor took place at Nash Square.
