No Mustard Gas, But Crews Find Rocket At Scotland County Airport

Posted Updated

LAURINBURG, N.C. — The search for chemical weapons at the Laurinburg-Maxton Airport is over.

The Army Corps of Engineers dug for two weeks, looking for drums of mustard gas from World War II that may have been dumped there.

No mustard gas was found, but crews found a live rocket. Crews detonated the rocket last week.

The Corps said the area was not used for live fire training, but as a garbage dump.
