Durham Police Investigate Shooting That Sends 3 To Hospital

DURHAM, N.C. — Durham police are investigating a shooting that sent three people to the hospital early Wednesday.

Police said the incident happened at 12:31 a.m. Officers responded to a call at Truman Street, found one victim shot in the chest and two others with less severe gunshot wounds. All three victims were transported to Duke Medical Center.

The exact location of the shooting was McDougal Terrace building 53. The suspects have been identified as Kam Russell, Duane Bailey, Ricky Alston and Paul Joyner. Russell reportedly was shot in the side, in the upper torso area, and suffered serious injuries.

Police said Bailey and Alston had non-life-threatening injures. Joyner was shot in the ankle.

Joyner, in addition to being a victim in the case, has been taken into police custody and charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. He was the only person charged in connection with the shooting as of noon Wednesday.
