CHATHAM COUNTY, N.C. — Two people were injured when their ambulance skidded off the road in northern Chatham County while answering a call Friday.
Authorities say the accident happened around 2 p.m. Friday on Old Fearrington Road when the driver of the First Health ambulance, identified as Christopher Cousar, lost control of the vehicle.
Cousar swerved off the road. The vehicle turned on its side and crashed into a tree.
Rescue workers say Cousar was trapped for about 1.5 hours before he was finally freed. His EMS partner was shaken up but was able to contact authorities.
Cousar was reported in fair condition at UNC Hospitals on Saturday.
