SAMPSON COUNTY, N.C. — Sampson County leaders should find out by the end of the month if they are getting enough federal funding to pay for a new jail.
The current building has a history of problems, including seven jailbreaks last year.
The sheriff has been asking for a new facility to ease overcrowding for 10 years, but officials say the project could cost up to $10 million.
The county applied for federal rural development money to pay for the new facility.
