<b>DURHAM, N.C.</b> — Durham police are investigating a report that an 8-year-old girl had a gun in her bookbag Monday at school.

According to police, a third-grade teacher at Merrick-Moore Elementary School on Cheek Road discovered the unloaded .380-caliber handgun and a holster in the bookbag late Monday morning.

The case is under investigation by the Durham Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division.
