Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — As part of the I-40 widening project, the

North Carolina Department of Transportation

is implementing a new traffic pattern on N.C. 147 (the Durham Freeway) at Interstate 40 East in Durham County.

Motorists accessing I-40 East from N.C. 147 South will merge into the left lane of N.C. 147 prior to accessing I-40. Motorists will no longer have to merge onto I-40 East.

The new traffic pattern will be put in place Monday after 9 p.m. and is scheduled to remain in place for a month.

Permanent signs and temporary message boards will indicate the new traffic pattern.

The DOT reminds motorists to be aware of construction workers and equipment in the work zone.
