<b>HOKE COUNTY, N.C.</b> — The State Bureau of Investigation is investigating a tip of a possible "hit" against the Hoke County sheriff.

The Hoke County Sheriff's Office received word that someone in North Carolina wanted to harm Sheriff Hubert Peterkin. Peterkin later contacted the SBI.

Agents say they have been unable to confirm whether the threats are real, but they are treating them as if they are.
