RALEIGH, N.C. — Henry Lee Hunt is scheduled to be executed next month. The state has chosen Sept. 12 as the date, and 2 a.m. is the scheduled time.
Hunt sent the state into a frenzy when he appealed his conviction and nearly had every death-row conviction in the state overturned. The unsuccessful appeal involved questions about his indictments.
Hunt was sentenced to death in Robeson County Superior Court on Dec. 20, 1985, for the 1984 murders of Jackie Ransom and Larry Jones. He also received two 10-year sentences for two counts of conspiracy to commit murder.
