SPRING LAKE, N.C. — Authorities finally have some answers about a fire in Spring Lake.
Investigators said Charlie Mays, who was found inside the burned apartment Wednesday at Southwinds Apartment Homes on 204 Dingo Road, shot himself after starting the fire.
Officials say two apartments were destroyed, two apartments suffered smoke damage and four apartments suffered water damage.
The Spring Lake Fire Department responded along with other local agencies. Investigators said an accelerant was used -- possibly gasoline.
