State, Federal Programs Available To Help Wilson Workers Find Jobs

Posted Updated

WILSON, N.C. — Wilson is bracing itself for a new wave of unemployment after VF Jeanswear announced plans to layoff more than 500 workers.

County leaders say federal and state programs will help workers get new job training through the community college system.

Administrators at Wilson Technical Community College say courses for training machinists, electricians and diesel mechanics are already preparing students for good-paying jobs that are in high demand.

Unlike textiles, the skills are not the kind that can be outsourced for cheaper overseas labor.
