Fayetteville Man Avoids Death Penalty In Beating Death Of Wife

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A man who beat his wife with a baseball bat then hours later walked into the Fayetteville police station and confessed has pleaded guilty to killing her.

Geoff Martin made the plea in exchange for the state removing the death penalty from the case.

Martin's wife Brandy died six days after the 2002 beating. She was pregnant at the time. Their unborn child survived.
