Former State Fair Midway Operator Files Lawsuit

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — The attorney for Amusements of America filed a lawsuit in Wake County Superior Court Wednesday.

Amusements of America ran the midway at the State Fair last fall, but this year's contract was tossed out because of the public corruption scandal surrounding former Ag Commissioner Meg Scott Phipps.

Amusements of America has filed for a preliminary injunction to retain the contract and to block the bidding process to pick a new operator.

A hearing is set for next Wednesday, which is two days before the winner of the new bidding process is named. The state is already under the gun to choose an operator in time for the October fair.
