Durham Police Ask For Information On Assault

DURHAM, N.C. — Durham police are asking for information about a serious assault that occurred last week in Sherwood Park on Cheek Road.

The victim, a 27-year-old female, was found lying in the road near the entrance to the park around 12:10 a.m. last Thursday, July 3. She was still in the hospital Tuesday after being stabbed several times in the upper torso and neck.

Investigators believe the victim was picked up near East Main Street and Briggs Avenue and taken to the park, where she was assaulted.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male in his late teens or 20s, 6 feet 2 inches tall and approximately 180 pounds.

He has black hair cut above his ears, and he was wearing beige pants and a black Izod shirt. He was driving a 4-door, late-model, burgundy Toyota Corolla with a yellow and back circular sticker on one of the rear side windows.

The right passenger seatbelt was cut, and the interior of the car was bloodstained. The vehicle had been seenseveral times in the area of East Main Street and Briggs Avenue prior to the incident.
