Cumberland County Authorities Investigate Fatal Drive-By Shooting

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Cumberland County sheriff's deputies are seeking information about a drive-by shooting that left a woman dead at the scene Sunday morning.

Deputies said they were called to 6533 Amanda Circle about 1:15 a.m., when it was reported that a female had been shot. When deputies arrived, they found 34-year-old Valarie Mainer Kirk, of 6402 Zenith Court, lying in the front yard of the residence. She was dead.

The residence where Kirk was shot is unoccupied.

Detectives have learned that shots were fired from a vehicle as it drove past Kirk and two other individuals who were in the front yard of the residence. Witnesses described the vehicle as a white Pontiac Grand Am or Honda Accord.
