RALEIGH, N.C. — A high school student was charged Friday with assaulting a principal, police said.

Christopher Fields, 16, was involved in a fight before classes at Leesville Road High School at about 7 a.m. when a vice principal tried to break up the altercation, police said.

Fields then pushed and hit the vice principal, police said.

He was released to his parents and is scheduled to appear in court in November, police said.
