Durham Police Investigate Assault

DURHAM, N.C. — Durham police are asking for information about an assault that occurred late Wednesday or early Thursday in or near Sherwood Park on Cheek Road.

The victim, a 27-year-old female, was found lying in the road near the entrance to the park around 12:10 a.m. on Thursday. According to police, she had been stabbed several times in the upper torso and neck.

She was taken to Duke University Medical Center, where she was in critical condition Thursday morning.

At 1 p.m. Thursday, investigators still were trying to determine the circumstances surrounding the assault. There was no suspect description.
