Wake Jail Annex Will Soon Fill Up With Inmates

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — The empty annex of the Wake County Jail on Hammond Road should be filling up soon.

The building is not being used because there are not enough deputies to run it, but a newly approved county budget includes money for 68 new deputies.

Officials with the Wake County Sheriff's Office said they should have 27 deputies hired by Wednesday. Forty-one deputies are currently training, which takes five weeks.
