NEW HILL, N.C. — A minor equipment malfunction forced Progress Energy's Shearon Harris nuclear plant to temporarily close Tuesday morning.
Progress Energy spokeswoman Julie Hans said a short circuit on the plant's generator forced the automatic shutdown at about 10 a.m., but that it was not considered to be an emergency situation.
"We had a problem with the main generator," Hans said. "It wasn't a reactor problem."
The plant is expected to resume operations on Wednesday.
The last time there was a shutdown like this at the plant was in 2004.
