HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. — One woman was killed after an accident involving an Orange County sheriff's deputy Monday night.

The accident happened at about 9:30 p.m. on N.C. Highway 86 near Sawmill Road north of Hillsborough.

Investigators believe Christina Lynn Keck, 31, of Gibsonville, N.C., was speeding and driving erratically when her vehicle hit Deputy Brandon Lassiter's patrol car head on. Her vehicle spun out of control, stopping about 100 yards away.

According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, the force of the crash threw Keck into the road. Seconds later, a station wagon, trying to avoid the accident, hit her. She died en route to UNC Hospitals.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday that Lassiter was taken to Durham Regional Hospital and treated for minor head and hand injuries. He was later released and was expected to make a full recovery.
