The accident occurred at about 10:15 a.m. near Barrett Road and N.C. Highway 96, just south of Interstate 95.
The van, which was carrying 14 people, apparently veered off the road and the driver overcorrected, causing the vehicle to flip two times, investigators said.
Three people were taken via helicopter and two via ambulance to Pitt County Memorial Hospital; two others were transported to WakeMed. None were seriously injured, authorities said.
Further details, including the identities of the passengers, were still unclear Sunday evening. The cause of the accident was also under investigation. Authorities said, however, it did not appear that any of the passengers were wearing their seatbelts.
