Sex Offender Charged With Failing To Register

Posted Updated

CHATHAM COUNTY, N.C. — A Siler City native was arrested on Wednesday for failing to register as a sex offender.

Larry Fout, 49, formerly of 1715 Wrenn Smith Road, was arrested by Chatham County sheriff's deputies after he turned himself in to authorities. Fout moved to Maryland more than a year ago and did not tell the sheriff's office he had moved.

Under law, defendants convicted of sex offenses are required to register with the sheriff of the county in which they reside in. Failing to register as a sex offender or failing to disclose a sex offender's address is a felony and is punishable by up to four years in prison.

Fout was jailed under no bond and is scheduled to appear in Chatham County District Court in Pittsboro.
