FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A suspect has been arrested in the vandalism of several Fayetteville gravesites this month.
Fayetteville police have charged Lanny Ray Marler II, 27, with three counts of defacing a gravesite. He is being held in the Cumberland County Detention Center on a $3,000 bond.
Investigators said the vandalism occurred late on the evening of Aug. 13.
The incident remains under investigation, and police said additional charges are expected.
City officials expected repair work on over 100 gravesites at Cross Creek Cemeteries One, Two, and Three to begin this week. There is no current estimate on how much the repairs will cost.
