2 Injured In Collision On Jordan Lake

CHATHAM COUNTY, N.C. — Two people were injured Saturday night when a jet-ski and a boat collided on Jordan Lake, authorities said.

The jet-ski and and 18-foot boat collided near the U.S. Highway 64 overpass on Jordan Lake at about 7 p.m., authorities said.

"It was foam going everywhere. It was like an explosion of foam," said Chris Foster, who was out on the lake at the same time.

Foster, a former medical technician, motored his vessel to the scene of the accident. He said a female passenger on the boat appeared to have hit her head during the collision and was vomiting blood.

"Her right eye was already swollen shut, and she was having a hard time breathing," he said. "It was pretty hard to take, and with the children in our boat, we had to ask them to move to the back of the boat so they wouldn't witness any of it. It was pretty rough."

The woman and the driver of the jet-ski were transported to University of North Carolina Hospitals in Chapel Hill. Their conditions were unknown late Saturday.

Officers with the state Wildlife Resources Commission are investigating the accident to determine who was at fault. Alcohol doesn't appear to be a factor in the crash, authorities said.
