Investigators: Electrical Problems Caused Chicken House Fire

Posted Updated

NASH COUNTY, N.C. — Electrical problems sparked a fire that killed more than 100,000 chickens, fire investigators said Wednesday.

Flames broke out at a Nash County chicken house off of Pleasant Grove Church Road shortly before 5 p.m. on Tuesday.

Firefighters from nine departments battled the flames and had to haul in water from a nearby lake because no fire hydrants were nearby.

The building's ventilation system fanned the flames, and the tin roof trapped the heat.
