Wayne County Man Charged In Hostage-Taking

Posted Updated

GOLDSBORO, N.C. — A Wayne County man was being held without bond Monday following a standoff with deputies Sunday that involved two hostages, authorities said.

Robert Honeycutt is charged with two counts each of first-degree kidnapping and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and a violation of a domestic violence protection order, authorities said.

Honeycutt's estranged wife, Vickie Honeycutt, and her sister, Gail Dail, were leaving Dail's house on Capps Bridge Road at about 8:45 a.m. Sunday when they were stopped by a man armed with a gun, authorities said.

Dail's husband saw the encounter from inside the house and called 911. Wayne County Sheriff Carey Winders and several deputies arrived at the house and negotiated with the gunman for about 90 minutes before they rushed the man and subdued him, authorities said.

No one was injured in the incident.
