Pinehurst Authorities Hope To Use DNA To Solve Pet Neglect Case

Posted Updated

MOORE COUNTY, N.C. — People in Pinehurst are shocked by an animal cruelty case.

Police said someone stuffed nine newborn puppies into a garbage bag and threw the bag into a Dumpster. The puppies reportedly still had their umbilical cords attached.

A security guard happened to hear the puppies whining and found them alive. Police said they traced the dogs to Chris Davis, who lives in a gated community in Pinehurst.

Police charged Davis with a felony and are using DNA to match the puppies with their mother; the dog, officers say, belongs to Davis.

The puppies are 7 weeks old and have all been adopted.

Davis goes to court next Wednesday, but he does not face jail time. He could get up to three years probation.
