Alleva Statement

J.D. Alleva, 27, is charged with operating a boat while impaired. Wildlife officials said the incident happened last month on Hyco Lake in Person County.

Joe Alleva issued a statement about the accident, saying he and his son were trying to navigate their way back to shore in dark, rainy conditions when it happened. Authorities said J.D. Alleva was going too fast through a no-wake zone when the boat he was operating hit land.

Joe Alleva received 42 stitches for a head injury, but he was back at work a few days later.
