Posted Updated

CHATHAM COUNTY, N.C. — Search crews will return to Jordan Lake Friday morning to look for a boater who was reported missing late Thursday evening.

According to authorities, two people were boating near the Seaforth Recreation Area near the Highway 64 bridge around 8 p.m. when one of the men decided to get out of the boat to go swimming and then went underwater. The other person in the boat, unable to locate him, came to shore and called 911.

Chatham County emergency personnel, as well as state wildlife officials, arrived at the scene late Thursday evening, diving into and dragging the lake in search of the possible drowning victim. The search was later suspended due to darkness.

Wildlife officials said that the man they are looking for is 24 years old, but there is no word yet on his identity.
