Lake Benson Reopens After Cary Sewage Spill

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — Another area lake that was closed following a sewage spill has reopened to the public.

Millions of gallons of raw sewage forced officials to keep Lake Benson off-limits since June 24. It reopened on Wednesday.

The sewage spill from Cary flowed into Swift Creek, tainting Lake Benson and Lake Wheeler with high levels of bacteria.

Lake Wheeler reopened Sunday.
