Police Solve Rape At Wake Treatment Center While Investigating Other Incident

Posted Updated

WAKE COUNTY, N.C. — Police say they have solved a sexual assault at a Wake County treatment center. According to investigators, they got their break while looking into the murder of a nurse at Dorothea Dix Hospital.

Police say Charles Spikes, a health technician at Holly Hill Hospital, is being charged with two counts of sexual assault. Authorities say he allegedly raped and sexually assaulted a 15-year-old female patient at the rehab center.

Hospital administrators are refusing to comment about the accusations, but police say they have DNA evidence that links Spikes to his victim.

Detectives also say their suspicion of Spikes came after the arrest of

Daniel Lang

. Police say Lang, who is charged with murdering his wife and raping patients at Dorthea Dix Hospital, was a friend of Spikes.

Detectives say the men share two things in common. They both worked at mental hospitals and they are both suspected of raping patients.
