Sprint Nextel Closes on Nextel Partners Acquisition

closed on its acquisition of Nextel Partners on Monday.

The deal, which came about as part of the merger of Sprint and Nextel, totaled some $6.5 billion. Sprint Nextel had already owned some 31 percent of the company.

The deal adds 58 markets and more than 2.1 million customers to Sprint Nextel, which has some 51 million wireless subscribers based on reporting for the first quarter of this year.
