Authorities Catch Suspect In 11-Year-Old Murder

Posted Updated

WILSON, N.C. — Wilson police say a man wanted for murder since 1992 is finally in custody.

Abdias Marcelus, 29, is in federal custody in New York. He's charged with killing a Wilson man named Bobby Knight.

According to police, Marcelus had been charged all along but managed to escape by changing his name.

At the time of the murder, Marcelus went by the name "Sharmel Thompson."

Marcelus was arrested in New York last year on federal firearm charges. His fingerprints revealed that he also had used the name of Sharmel Thompson. The Wilson arrest warrant was uncovered when authorities checked prior arrest records on Thompson.

Marcelus was arrested on Wednesday and placed in federal custody with no bond.
