BENSON, N.C. — A Benson man is dead after he was hit by a pickup truck Tuesday night.

Benson police said James Colvin, 54, was trying to cross U.S. 301 on a bicycle when he was struck near Brocklyn Street around 10 p.m.

According to police, Colvin drove into the path of a pick-up truck driven by Larry Mason, 39, of Angier.

Colvin was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police charged Mason with DWI and involuntary manslaughter. He is being held under $50,000 bond at the Johnston County Jail.

Even though Colvin drove his bicycle into Mason's path, police said Mason's impairmentwas a contributing factor.
