Authorities Try To Identify Edgecombe County Body

Posted Updated

EDGECOMBE COUNTY, N.C. — Investigators in Edgecombe County are trying to identify the body of a woman discovered late Monday afternoon.

A fisherman discovered the body floating in Cokey's Creek in about five feet of water.

Detectives say it appears the woman had been in the water for a while.

Investigators say the body appears to be an African-American woman. Authorities are conducting an autopsy at Nash General Hospital to figure out who she is and how she died.

Deputies told WRAL no one is reported missing in Edgecombe County, but Rocky Mount authorities say there is a missing person that matches the description of the body.
