Durham Police Investigate Apparent Attempted Murder/Suicide

When officers entered the home shortly after 9 p. m., they foundGeorge Mitchell, 54, of 3401 Dearborn Drive, lying on the kitchen floor. Mitchellwas transported to Duke University Medical Center for treatment of a gunshotwound.

Officers found a second man, whose name has not been released pendingnotification of next of kin, lying in a back bedroom with a gunshot wound tothe head. The man, who appeared to be in his 70s, was pronounced dead at thescene.

A preliminary investigation indicates that the older man apparently shotMitchell and then shot himself.
