Thief's Sloppiness Leads To Arrest After Garner Town Hall Robbed

Posted Updated

GARNER, N.C. — Evidence left behind by a sloppy thief led to an arrest after someone broke into Garner's Town Hall late Thursday or early Friday.

Workers found desks ransacked and a small safe missing. Someone also found a receipt with the name and address of a Durham man who had an extensive criminal history. Investigators searched the house and arrested Thomas Lemon.

During the search, investigators recovered the town's stolen safe. They said they also found evidence linking the suspect to Town Hall burglaries in Morrisville, Holly Springs, Orange, Chatham and Johnston counties.

There were no obvious signs of forced entry into the building in the Garner burglary. But once inside, employees noticed several open office doors.

Lennon is being held in the Orange County jail.
