Wake County Home Sales Hottest In Wake Forest

CARY, N.C. — When Cary put the brakes on a lot of residential construction, home builders -- and buyers -- went elsewhere.

So where did they settle? The answer is in the zip code.

With low interest rates, home sales is a hot game, nowhere hotter than in Wake Forest.

First-quarter home sales were biggeest in the 27587 zip code in Wake Forest. That's followed by two North Raleigh zip codes, 27616 closer to Rolesville and 27615 near North Ridge Country Club.

Homes in the Apex zip code of 27502 were the fourth-hottest sellers. No. 5 on the list: Clayton homes in the 27520 zip code.

Areas that were woods and farm fields a few years ago have been paved over and now represent some of the hottest-selling housing properties in Wake Forest.

Keith and Karen Bolte moved to Wake Forest from Philadelphia, and they like what they see.

"I think the amenities the community has to offer, the golfing community," Keith Bolte said, "and I think the value and quality of the home."

So what about Cary, the Triangle's boom town?

"Areas like MacGregor Downs are still hot and going to high-dollar buyers," said Kim Nilsen of the Triangle Business Journal. But there's less new material available, and people want newer homes."

Cary's still in the top 10. So are seven other Wake County zip codes.

Aside from Clayton, Southern Durham was the only other area outside of Wake County on the top-10 list.

"Wake County in general is doing very well," said realtor Carol Burdick. "Interest rates are good. People are kind of getting off the fence and getting out there and buying new homes."

Perhaps that's a sign the economy is improving.
