Granville County Teens Being Held On First-Degree Murder Charges

OXFORD, N.C. — Three Granville County teens have been charged with first-degree murder following Wednesday's assault and death of Darrell Carl Sheets.

According to authorities, the 21-year-old Sheets had been beaten in the head and body by several male suspects at an Oxford trailer park shortly before 2:30 a.m. Wednesday. He died later that day.

Charged with Sheets' murder are Babe Andrew Thorpe Jr., 16, of Oxford and a 15-year-old and 13-year-old whose names have not been released.

Thorpe was picked up Friday. He also faces a charge of robbery with a deadly weapon and is being held without bond at the Granville County Jail.

Also Friday, a 13-year-old black male was charged with robbery with a deadly weapon and first-degree murder. He is being held without bond in Umstead Correction Center of Butner.

A 15-year-old black male was charged last Thursday with robbery with a deadly weapon and assault with deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injuries. After Sheets died, he was charged with murder. He also is being held without bond in Umstead Correction Center of Butner.
