Speed Considered Factor In Fatal Cary Wreck

Posted Updated

CARY, N.C. — Two men died early Wednesday morning in a single-vehicle wreck along southbound U.S. 1 in Cary.

The driver, Christopher Lee Solomon, 19, and passenger George Wayne Taylor II, 24, were pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of the accident is under investigation and speed is considered a factor.

Police said Solomon lost control of the 1991 Jeep Comanche pickup on southbound U.S. 1/64, overturned multiple times and came to rest perpendicular across the travel lanes.

An off-duty Raleigh police officer was at the scene immediately after the crash and Cary police received the call at 2:24 a.m. Cary police, fire, and EMS responded to the scene.

U.S.1/64 southbound was closed until approximately 6 a.m., causing some delays to very early morning commuters. Highway Patrol, Raleigh Police, and Wake County deputies assisted with traffic control and access.
