Three Lee County Suspects Arrested For Alleged Rape

Posted Updated

LEE COUNTY, N.C. — Lee County authorities arrest three teenagers for the alleged rape of a girl at a party. Prosecutors say the incident was captured on videotape and shot by the suspects themselves.

Authorities say the victim attended a party at 1180 Post Office Road on April 18 where drugs and alcohol were present. The victim told authorities that she passed out after drinking and taking pills. The victim alleges that 19-year-old Joe Harvey, 18-year-old Eric Turner and 18-year-old David Pattishall then sexually assaulted her.

Authorities say Harvey and Pattishall were stepbrothers who hosted the party and knew the victim as a student at Lee County Senior High School.

Last Saturday, authorities arrested the three suspects, but they later paid bail and were released. New charges were filed Tuesday after authorities found a videotape in the suspects' possession of the unconscious woman allegedly being raped by the suspects.

"We often charge cases without videotapes. In this case, we charged [them] before we discovered the videotape," Assistant District Attorney Marci Tragaser said.

Pattishall's attorney said he is waiting for more evidence and that the videotape does not tell the whole story.

Each suspect in the case is being held on $750,000 secured bond. A grand jury hearing is scheduled for May 19.
